If your pet could talk, what would be the first thing it says?
A foolishness, this question, and a dangerous one, for it overturns the Maker’s order. Man alone bears a living soul, word and reason, image and likeness of God; the beast has only life, and its life is its blood — without self-knowledge, without judgment, without word. To imagine it speaking is no innocent play, but the dragging-down of man’s most precious gift to the level of the beast, as though no abyss stood between image and servant.
