What are your top 10 travel destinations?
My ten destinations
I have no maps for them, no tickets, no passport. They are the ten resting-places of the inner man, which I seek not with my feet, but with my heart:
1. Silence — the country without noise, where God’s voice is heard only as a whisper.
2. The wilderness — not of sand, but of a heart emptied of self.
3. The tear — a heavy toll to cross, but comfort lies beyond it.
4. Humility — a low valley, yet from there the sky is seen best.
5. Forgiveness — the road back, toward the one I wounded or who wounded me.
6. Unceasing prayer — a hidden citadel, which you enter and never fully leave.
7. Today — the only country I truly possess, the rest being memory or hope.
8. The sick or weary body of my neighbor — a pilgrimage many avoid.
9. The grave — a border everyone crosses, but few look at in time.
10. The Resurrection — not a destination, but a Person — the goal toward which the other nine only point.
Someone may ask: but where have you actually traveled? I will answer: I have grown weary, like everyone, “toiling into the wind” — but the roads that matter aren’t measured in kilometers.
