Remaining Before God

The greatest challenge in prayer is not spending a long time in it, but remaining steadfast before God with a watchful heart.

The human mind easily runs after many things. It remembers the past, imagines the future, and scatters itself among endless cares. Yet God is found in the present moment. Therefore, the soul that learns to remain before Him discovers that every moment can become a place of encounter with grace.

Do not be troubled if prayer sometimes feels dry or without consolation. The sun does not cease to shine simply because clouds conceal it. In the same way, God’s grace often works in secret even when you feel nothing.

Faithfulness does not mean always having the same fervor; it means never ceasing to come before the Lord. The one who continually knocks at the door of God’s mercy will learn that the greatest work is not to speak much, but to remain humbly in His presence.

Do not seek what is extraordinary in the spiritual life. Seek instead to be present before God each day, and He will make the ordinary the place where He reveals Himself.

“Abide in Me, and I in you.” (John 15:4)
