Trials reveal not only what happens to us, but also what lies within us.
When life unfolds according to our desires, it is easy to think that we have peace and faith. But when difficulties come, the foundation upon which the heart is built becomes visible. Trials can reveal patience or complaint, trust or fear, humility or resistance.
God does not allow trials to crush us, but to purify us. Just as fire purifies gold from what does not belong to it, so hardships received with faith can remove from the soul what prevents it from drawing closer to God.
Do not ask only, “Why is this happening to me?” Also ask, “What is God seeking to work within me through this?” Sometimes He does not immediately change the situation because He first desires to transform the heart that is passing through it.
Humility in trials means recognizing that you do not always see God’s entire plan, while still trusting His love. A child does not understand everything his father does, but he knows he is loved. So it is with the soul that entrusts itself to the Lord.
Do not allow suffering to steal your faith. You may not see the fruit today, but God is working in the depths. What appears to be a burden may, through grace, become a ladder leading to a deeper closeness with Him.
“For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all.” (2 Corinthians 4:17)
