A brother said to an elder, „Father, my thought gives me counsel, and I ask it, ‘But what would Christ have done?’ Then it falls silent and looks away, like a man caught with his hand in the sack.”

The elder laughed and said, „Do not drive him out, my child, nor call him to account. A counselor who has learned to be silent at the right time is on his way to becoming a disciple.”
