Neither the hand, nor the mind

My child, do not lean on your mind.

The mind is like mountain water: clear in the morning, troubled by dusk.

Do not make it a foundation — it cannot carry the weight of the heart.

Do not lean on your work either.

Work is good, but it is not life.

The modern man calls it “identity”, yet it does not hold him when the long night comes.

Remember: your gifts are not yours.

God gave them so you may work with them in silence.

It was not your diploma that opened doors, nor your skill, nor your running.

It was God, who cared for you long before you remembered Him.

But if you forget God and begin to worship your own mind, be afraid.

For the modern man does not fall because he is weak, but because he makes a small god out of his intellect.

Psychology calls it the ego, the Church calls it pride, and the hermit sees in it a wound that refuses to be touched.

And know this: out of mercy, God can take away in a moment what has blinded you, so you may see clearly that strength never came from you.

And you will understand that man does not live by what he knows, nor by what he does, but by the One who gives him breath every morning.
