The Christian’s hope does not rest upon what he sees, but upon the faithfulness of God.
When circumstances grow dark, a person is tempted to believe that God has withdrawn. Yet God is not measured by changing seasons or by the feelings of the heart. He remains the same in light and in darkness, in joy and in trial. What changes is our ability to perceive Him, not His love for us.
Hope does not mean expecting everything to happen according to your own will. It means trusting that God’s will is wiser than your plans and more loving than your desires. The one who hopes in the Lord may weep, grow weary, and endure many struggles, yet he does not despair, because he knows in whom he has placed his trust.
Do not feed fear by constantly dwelling on what might happen. Nourish hope by remembering the blessings God has already given you. The one who remembers God’s faithfulness in the past will have strength to entrust the future to Him.
Keep your eyes fixed on Christ, not on the waves. The waves rise and fall, but Christ remains the same. And the one who remains with Him will never be put to shame in his hope.
“Hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit.” (Romans 5:5)
