The soul finds no lasting rest until it learns to desire God above all else.
Every human heart carries a thirst that nothing in this world can fully satisfy. People try to fill it with possessions, praise, success, or pleasures, yet the thirst remains. Not because these things are evil in themselves, but because the heart was created for something greater: communion with God.
Blessed is the one who begins to recognize this thirst. He no longer hides it or tries to silence it, but directs it toward the Fountain of Life. Every prayer, every tear of repentance, every moment of silence before the Lord becomes a drink from the living water that the world cannot give.
Do not be afraid if you feel within yourself a longing that nothing earthly can fulfill. Such longing is often God’s own call. He enlarges the heart not to leave it empty, but to fill it with His presence.
Do not try to quench the soul’s thirst with what is passing away. Let it lead you to Christ. The one who drinks of the water He gives discovers that true rest is found neither in a place nor in circumstances, but in God Himself.
“My soul thirsts for the living God.” (Psalm 42:2)
