Beginning Again

In the spiritual life, the greatest failure is not falling, but refusing to rise again.

No one advances without struggle, and no one passes through this life without falling in one way or another. Those who reach the harbor are not those who have never fallen, but those who, through repentance and hope, have risen each time and continued on their way.

The enemy seeks to turn every fall into despair. He whispers that everything is lost, that there is no point in praying anymore, and that God has abandoned you. But God is nearer to the one who repents than to the one who believes himself without fault. His mercy is greater than your fall.

Do not remain looking back at the sin you have confessed and forsaken. Look forward to Christ. True repentance does not bind the soul to the past; it sets it once again upon the path of life. Every day is a new invitation to begin again.

If you have fallen today, rise today. If you have grown weak, be strengthened today through prayer. If you have wandered away, return today. God never grows weary of receiving the one who comes to Him with a humble heart.

“For though the righteous fall seven times, they rise again.” (Proverbs 24:16)
