The Heart Where Grace Rests: On True Humility

Humility is the place where God can work in the human soul without resistance.

The proud person is not only the one who lifts himself above others, but also the one who relies too greatly on his own strength, judgment, and righteousness. He leaves little room for God because his heart is already filled with himself.

Humility does not mean considering yourself worthless, but recognizing the truth: every good thing within you comes from God. It does not make you small before people, but frees you from the need to appear great in their eyes. The humble person no longer lives for applause, for defending his image, or for defeating others, but for remaining in the love of God.

Christ, though He was God, humbled Himself and took the form of a servant. Through this He showed us that true greatness is not found in ruling, but in loving; not in being served, but in serving.

When someone corrects you, first ask whether there may be a grain of truth in their words. When you are praised, remember the One to whom you owe every good thing. Thus, the soul remains balanced and is not carried away by either glory or shame.

Guard humility as a hidden treasure. It is not always visible outwardly, but God looks upon it. The humble heart is the place where grace rests.

“God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.” (James 4:6)
